Charli Quits Hi-5

by User Imagelkatulka on February 22nd, 2008

Charli Delaney has devasted kids around the country by announcing she’s leaving Hi-5.
Charli told The Daily Telegraph she’d considering quitting the popular children’s group for years, but was inspired to take the plunge by cricketer Adam Gilchrist.

“Gilchrist retired on the same day as my last show in Perth and I’m a cricket tragic,” she said. “I thought: ‘Thanks Gilly’ … it was a typical Aussie girl thing to do.”

Since the formation of Hi-5, Charli has completed 10 television series, toured the world six times, recorded 11 albums, and made 27 DVDs. She now leaves Nathan Foley and Kellie Hoggart as the only original members of the award-winning group.

Charli now plans to establish herself as an actress, and is considering enrolling in NIDA to hone her skills. She said she may consider another TV presenting gig, but would really enjoy working in films or television.

4 opinions for Charli Quits Hi-5

I have just heard yesterday about Charli’s decision to call it a day at Hi-5. In a way I am a bit shocked, but in another way I am not surprised. Charli knew in her own heart that her time there was up long before this finally came about. As a person who has had the wonderful privilege of actually bumping into Charli, Tim and Kathleen a few times while they were touring Melbourne, I can really feel how Charli must be wondering in her own heart about how she could do more to expand her own reach in the broader family audience market.

I realise that she has a wonderful ambitious plan to focus on an adult/youth drama career, but, with the right song and marketing and, of course, the best instrumental training, I feel Charli could also make it as a solo children’s country or Avril-type children’s rock music artist. The Australian children’s music scene is currently lacking such a prominent female solo artist and Charli could fill that gap. I think she - and Tim and Kathleen - are the 3 most ‘real’ out of the Australian Hi-5 bunch and people saw that from the programme. People warmed to her.

    Good luck, Charli.

    Cheers,

Thanks for your thoughts Steven. I agree with you that she seems to have such a genuine warmth to her that she’s bound to succeed in whatever she decides to do in the future.

You know Lauren, that reminds me. Four interesting all-girl bands from the 80s come to mind that would’ve been on Charli’s level quite easily - The Pandoras, The Muffs, Mad Monster Party and even the Bangles, but also some of today’s solo offerings like Coronation Street’s Kym Ryder (she used to Kym Marsh in Hear’Say), Ginger Sling (currently in Smashing Pumpkins) and Hannah Montana (oh that Hannah Montana is sooooooooo cute with a guitar round her neck and singing away like that don’t you think so). We could probably see Charli do something along those lines. Visit YouTube, type in the names of all those female artists I’ve just mentioned there in the search engine, watch their video clips (especially the Pandoras clips) and you’ll see what I mean.

    Cheers,
    Steven.

I definitely see it Steven. Hannah Montana is doing huge business at the moment filling a real gap between kids music and adult stuff. I actually have a few friends who’ve admitted to really enjoying her music too! Charli could definitely have a much wider appeal if she branched out in this way.
