Adelaide may have missed out on the V Festival, but that doesn’t mean they’ll miss some of the event’s biggest names.

80s pop icons Duran Duran and 90s emo pioneers Smashing Pumpkins are making the trip to South Australia. As an added bonus for Pumpkins fans, Queens of the Stone Age will also appear at this very special show.

Duran Duran will play all their classic tracks and songs from their newie Red Carpet Massacre on April 1 at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre. The big Smashing Pumpkins/Queens of the Stone Age show will play the end cent on the following night. Yes, that’s right: two massive shows on in the middle of the week. I can imagine there’ll be some very bleary-eyed workers in Adelaide!

Tickets for both shows will go on sale to the public at 9 am on Monday 11 February from Ticketek.

The person who wrote this trash needs to do their research. “Emo” pioneers?! C’mon. Get a clue. People who throw the term “emo” around and link it to bands from the past are just idiots. The Smashing Pumpkins were long before any emo crap come about - even if they did have some influence on the crappy emo bands of today. Long live the Pumpkins, in all their ‘grunge/alternative’ glory.

Ouch! As you’ve admitted yourself Jason, the Pumpkins were around first and they influenced “the crappy emo bands of today.” Whether you like it or not, I’d say that makes them pioneers of the sound we now call emo.

The Pumpkins are not emo. Emo is another evolution of Punk, which is definately not the Smashing Pumkpins. Do you really think the Pumpkins sound anything like Panic At The Disco and AFI? No… they sound nothing like them. Smashing Pumpkins are of a rock and grunge influence, and as i said, emo are of a punk influence.

Emo’s a lot more complex than just saying it’s an offshoot of punk. While punk bands influenced many bands that come under the broad umbrella of emo, there were also plenty of indie rock bands that did the same. Take a look at the likes of Dashboard Confessional, Weezer, or Jimmy Eat World. Emo’s a lot more about attitude than genre anyway, with that whole ethos that “my pain is so painfully painful.” In that regard, I don’t think a band as happy as Panic at the Disco really falls under the emo banner.

you’ve got a bias, so quit acting like your opinion is more than that, an opinion. I’ve seen emo kids covering disarm and guess what, their version is shit because they don’t understand a damn thing about music. the pumpkins were more goth than emo anyway, not to mention the fact that zeitgeist was mostly kick ass heavy rock. If they were this whiny band you label them ass then why do they make your fucking skull reverberate for days after you see them? go listen to your pop you fucking robot.

Evan … thanks for your opinions. Blogging is built on them, which is why on this site which is my blog you’re going to read mine. Feel free to disagree with them in a calm logical fashion, but aggressive comments like your last suggestion to put my head in front of a gun barrel are unwarranted.

Billy Corgan’s nasally voice and the droning music of the Smashing Pumpkins always annoyed me. So what? You don’t seem to have the greatest love of pop music, but that doesn’t worry me. That diversity is what makes the world great. Perhaps you need to take a chill pill eh?

if you could pry your ears away from the radio for a second and actually listen to an album by the smashing pumpkins, you would find they are a very diverse band with a plethora of musical offerings. But if you just want to listen to what mass media feeds you then go ahead.
