Jessica Mauboy’s “Running Back” with Flo Rida

Jessica Mauboy’s well and truly shed her poppy Young Divas image with her slick new single “Running Back.” I can’t say I like the song’s sentiment (where’s the girl power?) but there’s no denying that it’s catchy. Jess is also in fine voice here. When she was competing with the other Divas I almost forgot how well she sings! Everything Flo Rida touches turns to gold, so his appearance here is sure to make “Running Back” a hit. It definitely deserves to be!

    This is a great song, and a well thought-out move by Jess. Her voice has always been amazing, and she deserves the publicity that will come with this hit. But re “girl power”, why the downer? She’s singing about real emotions, asking “where’s the girl power” suggests she shouldn’t be singing about vulnerability and raw emotion. Remember, men shunned raw emotions for decades, and are only now learning to open up. We don’t want girls going backwards!!!

    Hi Bec - I don’t think it’s very “girl power” because the guy’s cheating on her, yet she keeps on going back to him. As Flo Rida raps “Shorty yeah he cheated, You say you don’t need it, Turn around and leave it, Oh he back next week.” And it seems a lot more like a pattern than a one-of incident, which makes me think she’s pretty weak to not walk away from this guy who treats her badly! That’s not the way I see Jess at all by the way - but the lyrics are pretty clear there!

    I’m all for vulnerability and raw emotions, but I do have a problem with people putting up with partners who don’t treat them well in the name of love. And that’s male OR female!

    This song is cool, but where’s the album pic? i need it for my itouch so it will look colourful and good, i can’t find it in google far out! if anyone knows the album pic please tell me!!
