Jet and Wolfmother Are Wannabes, Say Airbourne

Airbourne may have their sights set on finding new fans in America, but they’re certainly not going to make any new friends back home. Lead singer Joel O’Keefe has slammed other local success stories Jet and Wolfmother in an interview with Canada’s Chart Attack.
“Jet and Wolfmother are not for real. We are. That’s the difference. They’re not for real. They’re doing it to be cool, and you can tell,” he said.
“Wolfmother and Jet are a bad example of rock that comes out of Australia. They’re just carbon copies of something they want … they’re wannabes. They’re like American Idol or something like that. They’re not legit.”
Joel said Airbourne plan to focus on the American market and treat Australia as a “tourist destination.”
“We intend to move here [North America] for good. Australia will become a tourist destination for us. We’re all going to live in a house together. We’re here to get drunk and get wasted and have a party with everyone.”
Funnily enough, I don’t think Australia’s going to miss them. “Too Much, Too Young, Too Fast” was a minor hit, but they haven’t really made a big impression. And we don’t tend to like bands who turn their back on Oz and rubbish our other artists. Good riddance Airbourne!

1st of all wolfmother think they are the next led zeppelin, and jet and the vines are emo bitches that cant play there insturments and are promoted by fake polls and press reports, if u cant deal with the fact that thos bands suck “than u got issues dude !!

Hoodoo Gurus and Airbourne have nothing to do with that lame emo scene fake scene, I know, because we got it over here in the united states, its called bands like > the white stripes, the strokes, dashboard confessional, greenday, nirvana, foofighters,pearl jam and red hot chili peppers, the all suck and there not as good as any of our rock greats like Van halen,Areosmith,Ted nugent,Motley Crue,The doors or even “ronnie james dio ” which the pop scene or hard rock hall of fame never mentions !!!
if austrailla doesnt except pure genuine quality and a ballsey fucking band that stands up for rock n roll than U guys dont deserve airbourne

You’re entitled to your own opinion jimmyforce, but I’ve got to tell you - Airbourne have borrowed from AC/DC and Rose Tattoo just as much as Wolfmother and Jet have borrowed from their influences. The latter bands don’t really do much for me personally either, but there’s no denying they’ve had massive success. At this point in their careers, it’s the sort of success Airborne can only dream about.
My point was, and I stand by it, that it’s pretty poor form to slag the bands who have made it and turn your back on your homeland so publicly. Airborne don’t have the industry standing to justify that sort of diva behaviour, and comments like those made by Joel are just attention-seeking.

lauren ,first i’d like to say wolfmother and led zeppelin wanna bes, jet are nirvana meetz acdc meets oasis, each of thos bands are not original and suck at the insturments, airbourne have major acdc influence, but they also have major judas preist/iron maiden/van halen/metallica/motorhead influences too, people just look at one band from australlia and say oh, they sound like acdc, there ignorant and have know idea how much talent airbourne have !!! maybe cause the people judging airbourne arent musicians…
I also dont know what what talking about when u say theres no backing of the industry, I mean they signed a multi-million contract with capitol, capitol folded, got bought out by virgin records , lost half there roster and then roadrunner picks them up within months, chick do your research, airbourne can say what ever the hell they want about bands that kiss major ass, and airbourne in the long run will get more respect for it !!!
it takes a band to talk trash about others to set them apart from all the cliches

Jimmy is fucking moron who doesn’t know his music. Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam and RHCP do not suck at all (i give you the rest), they are definitely not that gay emo shit. There is no fucking way Van Halen and Motley Crue qualifies as hard rock nor should they be mentioned because they are garbage. Van Halen & Motley Crue = Hair Pop Glam Metal = Crap.

Thanks for weighing in Eric. It’s an interesting issue … I think most bands sound a lot like someone else - there’s not a lot that’s truly original these days and people are inspired by the greats that came before. All that really matters is whether we’re enjoying the music, but I do think it’s pretty poor form for bands to go slagging off their peers.

sorry lauren, but i’m gonna have to agree with joe on this one… there is no denying that jimmy is, in fact, a fucking moron. i’m a musician, and i’m judging them, and they are shit. they are a joke. they claim to be the most real thing on the music scene, these party hard rockers. truth is, the fuckwits are all show. they barely drink a drop, when it’s all they talk about doing. their songwriting ability NEVER extends beyond “drink your beer, drink your wine… we’re going to have a good time”… wow, i don’t know about you, but that has really changed my life.
credit where credit is due, they do put on a good live show but it ends there. they cannot write a good song. their album is rubbish and the only way they are going to be able to continue in the industry is by constant touring as they’re NEVER going to have a hit song. they’re never going to sell a shitload of albums… and they’re never going to find fans that aren’t shallow deadshits.

hey hey, we’re all cool here… i just think he’s way out of line and clearly doesn’t know shit. it’s one thing for a band to draw from influences, we all do it, but to completely rip off a sound, an image, even down to the type of guitar they play, it’s just pathetic. there’s some awesome music getting around in australia, but i’m embarrassed to have them parading around the world as ambassadors of australian music. they are a joke and they are destined to fail. i’m tipping that by the end of the year they’ll be crawling back to oz with their tails between their legs and their dicks in their hands and the bogan wankers can get back to shearing sheep where they belong.

Joel had every right to express his opinion, just like you’ve been doing so abusively on here, and just like Wolfmother or Jet have the same right when (or if) they step back into the spotlight. ARINA’s totally right, the band is gaining a massive following overseas, their song Stand Up For Rock n Roll was the theme song of Royal Rumble this year, which gave them MASSIVE exposure to millions of WWE fans, and they’re doing incredibly well off it.. I think ARINA will agree, thats pretty solid stuff to form an opinion on. So why don’t you think about what your saying next time you open your stupid fuckin mouth. Fair enough if you don’t like the band, but to say that noone should like them because your a “musician and your judging them and theyre shit” - you fucking moron. When you get an international following and start representing Australia with your amazing music, let me know. Until then, long live Airbourne!! I’ve seen Airbourne 4 times, but I’ve also seen Fooeys twice, Pearl Jam twice, and Chili’s once. And I’m a massive fan of Van Halen. How can you say that Van Halen is crap? Why not compare EVH’s guitar playing with Kurt Cobain’s? There is absolutely no point arguing about whose good and who isn’t, because everyone has different musical tastes, and abusing each other ain’t gonna persuade anyone otherwise. ExtremeJimmy … I don’t think checkmate’s greatest issue is whether or not Airbourne are a good band. I’m sure he knows he doesn’t have to listen to them. It’s just that it’s a bit un-Australian of Airbourne to start trying to tear down the achievements of other successful Australian bands, particularly when you haven’t achieved that level of success yourself. Doubly so when it’s so easy to see their own music is highly derivative of the works of Oz pub rock pioneers.

He obviously has no interest in the band, so it pisses me off that he sits on here abusing people that do.
