Merry Christmas from Oz Music Scene
Merry Christmas everybody! I hope all my readers have a wonderful Christmas Day spent with family, friends, lots of presents, and plenty of good food. I figured I’d leave you today with some of my favourite performances from Carols by Candlelight. Play them loud, sing along, and have a very happy Christmas.
Here’s one of the finest voices in Australia, Guy Sebastian, singing one of my favourite carols, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” This clip makes me miss that afro just a little bit.
So simple, so beautiful. Olivia Netwon-John shows why vocal acrobatics are overrated with her rendition of “Silent Night.”
I had to round out the list with my absolute favourite festive tune, “The Christmas Song.” This version by Anthony Callea is just beautiful.

Happy Christmas day to you oz girl. Although, you know I can’t keep up with time zones. Hmmm. If your day came already, I hope you had a great one.

Well, as luck would have it I was visiting family for the holidays so I don’t know when this was posted. But according to your timestamp it’s December 25 and that’s good enough for me. It’s the next day here, so I’m not sure whether it’s still Christmas for you or not - if it is I hope you’re still having a blast, and if not I hope you and your family had a wonderful time :-)

Hi Lauren, I hope you had a lovely Christmas and New Year. I meant to comment on your 3 great choices of Carols earlier but got caught up with the festivities. Youv’e picked 3 of my personal favourite Carol’s and there’s just something magical about the Vision Australia’s Carols on Christmas Eve. Loved Guy’s version of Merry Little Christmas, and I hadn’t seen Olivia’s Silent Night before, its just lovely. I’m wondering if its the same blind guitarist accompaning her as the one who teamed up with Anthony Callea in 2006 for Silent Night. His name is Lorin Nicholson, he is just amazing. Its 6 years after Olivia’s performance, so he looks a little older with Anthony so its hard to tell, but there is nothing on the Youtube to say its him.
I especially love the Christmas Song this version in particular. I’m a bit wierd but actually love Christmas Carols and could listen to certain ones all year round they just make you feel good. I have an absolute new favourite from this years Carols which was O Holy Night by Anthony Callea it was just haunting and beautiful.
Have a great 2008

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too Di! I know what it’s like to get caught up in the rush … I was barely home over the break due to visiting family, then taking a bit of a road trip with my husband :-). But yes, I had a lovely festive season. I’m a bit like you with the Christmas carols. My mum would play them all December and I just never got tired of them. These songs have stood the test of time after all, and there’s a reason for that :-)
