Kylie and Coldplay Release AIDS Charity Song “Lhuna”

December 2, 2008 by lkatulka

Kylie Minogue and Coldplayhave teamed up for an ethereal new single called “Lhuna.” The track was released yesterday to support World AIDS Day.

All proceeds from the sale of the landmark single will go to (RED)Wire, a charity which helps deliver AIDS medication to those that can’t afford it.

This song is certainly a departure from the soaring stadium anthems and boppy pop gems we’re used to hearing from these musicians. Who would have imagined their collaboration would sound like this?

Melinda Schneider Duets with Paul Kelly

July 1, 2008 by lkatulka

Melinda SchneiderMelinda Schneider has a new fan in Aussie singer songwriter Paul Kelly. Paul was so impressed with a demo version of one of Melinda’s new songs, he agreed to sing it on her latest album.

The unlikely duo met by chance in Coogee.

“I was snorkelling at Coogee Beach and got up and out of the water, and there was Paul Kelly sitting on a rock,” Melinda told The Sunday Telegraph.

The pair got to chatting, so Melinda decided to send Paul a copy of her song “Still Here.” He loved it so much, they decided to record it together at his Melbourne home.

“I love his vocals on it,” she gushed. “The intimacy of it is really beautiful on that track.”

Melinda will launch her latest album, Be Yourself, at Sydney’s City Tattersalls Club on Thursday. It will hit stores on 5 July.

Iggy Pop and Jet Team Up

April 29, 2008 by lkatulka

Iggy PopRumour has it that punk legend Iggy Pop will head to Australia to perform with Jet at the ARIA Hall of Fame presentation later this year.

But it’s not as unlikely as it seems. Iggy and Jet got together earlier this month to record a cover of “The Wild One” for an Johnny O’Keefe tribute album.

Of course Iggy covered the song in the 80s and released it as “Real Wild Child.” And the lads from Jet have always loved Iggy. So I suppose it makes sense.

Except that Jet claimed they were breaking up last October. Didn’t take long for them to change their minds! I suppose when Iggy Pop starts asking after you reconsidering retirement is fair enough.

Our own Delta Goodrem may sing with one of her biggest idols when Canadian diva Celine Dion arrives in Sydney next year.

Delta has been a long time fan of Celine’s work, and it seems the admiration is mutual. Celine recorded Delta’s song “Eyes on Me” for her comeback album, Taking Chances.

Celine will tour Australia through March and April, and rumours are already buzzing that the pair will treat Aussie audiences to a diva duet.

“It’s early days but the opportunity is definitely there - Australia is one of Celine’s best selling territories so it would make sense,” a Sony BMG spokeswoman told The Daily Telegraph.

“If their schedules allow for it we’ll make every effort to connect with Celine - Delta would be beside herself,” added Delta’s management.
