Kylie Minogue Announces North American Tour

May 7, 2009 by lkatulka

America’s never really embraced our Kylie like other global destinations, but the pop princess is going to give it another shot. She’ll take her acclaimed X tour to North America later this year.

The flashy show has taken an estimated $70 million in ticket sales so far, but lukewarm American sales of the X album make this a bit of a gamble. It didn’t even reach gold status there, selling just 36, 000 units.

But let’s wish Kylie well! Hopefully this tour could be just the thing to turn the Americans onto Ms Minogue! Here are the dates!

30 September 2009 - Fox Theater, Oakland
3 October 2009 - The Pearl, Las Vegas
4 October 2009 - Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles
7 October 2009 - Chicago, The Congress Theater
9 October 2009 - Air Canada Centre, Toronto
11 October 2009 - Hammerstein Ballroom, New York

Kylie Minogue’s Tattooed Toy Boy

April 19, 2009 by lkatulka

I’m not exactly sure when’s the appropriate time in a relationship to tattoo your lover’s name on your body, but something tells me Andres Velenscosco Segura’s moving too fast.

Kylie Minogue’s Spanish beau is so besotted that he’s been branded with her name. It seems like a pretty big leap to take for someone you’ve only dated since last October.

“Andres knows how insecure the ten-year age gap makes her feel and this gesture has really boosted her happiness,” a source told The Sun newspaper.

Apparently the tattoo is especially meaningful for Kylie because Andres’ only other is his mother’s name Lucia.

Call me a cynic, but something tells me Andres’ is going to regret that grandiose gesture of love in a couple of years!

Kylie Minogue Shops on the Cheap

April 1, 2009 by lkatulka

We’re all tightening our belts in the face of the financial crisis, even our cashed-up pop stars! Kylie Minogue was spotted stocking up on preloved fashions at a Victorian Salvation Army outlet.

The bargain shopping pop diva scored two dresses, a hat, and a skirt for less than $40! Store manager Natasha Scott told The Daily Telegraph the songstress was shopping with a gal pal and doing her best to avoid the limelight.

“She was hiding under a hat and had the trademark big sunglasses on, but she still looked great,” she said.

“She looked happy as she browsed around before buying a couple of summery dresses, a trendy little hat with a peak and a skirt. All up, she spent under $40.”

The pop princess has been holidaying around Australia with her current beau, Spanish model Andres Velencoso, and spending time with her parents since coming home to play last month’s Sound Relief concert.

Sound Relief a Record Breaker

March 10, 2009 by lkatulka

This Saturday’s Sound Relief concerts have already smashed records, with the Melbourne show becoming the largest paid concert event in Australian history. With artists like Kings of Leon, Midnight Oil, and Gabriella Cilmi on the bill, and money raised benefiting the Victorian bushfire victims, it’s little wonder why!

“It’s just an amazing result,” said Sound Relief co-organiser Michael Gudinski. “The lineup is without doubt a once in a lifetime one, but it’s truly impressive how much the Australian public has gotten behind this.  It speaks volumes of the passion of our great country – helping a mate in trouble.”

And with the addition of Kylie Minogue to the line-up, the show at the MCG is only going to get bigger. She’ll make an appearance as special guest MC.

“To me, Kylie is Melbourne.  Her attendance is the cherry on the top of an already phenomenal lineup.  She’s our girl.” Michael Gudinski said.

With other 78, 000 tickets sold, the Melbourne concert has been declared a sell out. Lucky fans in Sydney can still secure tickets, with more released today. Profits from the SCG show will be shared between the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal and The Premier’s Disaster Relief Fund to aid victims of the Queensland floods.

Barry Gibb and Kylie Minogue Tipped for Sound Relief

March 5, 2009 by lkatulka

There are whispers that Barry Gibb and Kylie Minogue may be added to the already massive Sound Relief concert bill.

Word is that Ian “Molly” Meldrum has coaxed the former Bee Gee out of retirement. If anyone could have done it, it would have been Molly!

Molly’s also saying that Kylie will play at the benefit show, but no formal announcement has been made yet.

The March 14 Sound Relief concerts will raise much needed funds for victims of the Victorian bushfires and Queensland floods. Tickets went on sale yesterday, but limited tickets are still available.

Kylie and The Veronicas Face Plastic Surgery Rumors

February 19, 2009 by lkatulka

Have they or haven’t they? Some of Australia’s most popular pop exports, The Veronicas and Kylie Minogue, are fighting back against plastic surgery rumours.

Sydney plastic surgeon Darryl Hodginkson has suggested the Brisbane twins may have undergone subtle nose jobs “around the dorsum or bridge of the nose.

“But the greatest change in the last three to four years is that they have both lost the ‘puppy fat’ around their cheeks and jaw lines leaving them both with a more defined jaw line and tauter look.”

Yet their record company Warner Music Australia insists the pair “absolutely haven’t had any plastic surgery - they are 100 per cent natural.”

Meanwhile Kylie’s taut face at the recent BAFTA film awards has raised a few eyebrows.

“Kylie’s brows look a little higher than usual, which suggests she’s having regular Botox to lift them,” cosmetic surgeon Dr Alex Karidis reported in Grazia magazine.

“One of Kylie’s brows is slightly more arched and higher than the other, which is often a telltale sign.”

The surgeon also suggests Kylie may have had work done on her cheeks and lips. The pop princess isn’t exactly denying the claims, commenting that “You’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t.”

Personally I think The Veronicas changes have simply come from growing from awkward teenagers into young ladies. As for Kylie, well I’m not so sure!

Aussies Snubbed at Grammys

February 9, 2009 by lkatulka

51st Annual Grammy Awards - Backstage & Audience

There were four local hopefuls, but Australians have failed to secure a Grammy at the Los Angeles ceremony today.

We had high hopes for the dance categories, with Kylie Minogue’s X nominated for best electronic/dance album and Sam Sparro’s “Black and Gold” up for best dance recording. But French electronic outfit Daft Punk swept the pool and stole both awards.

Rock veterans AC/DC were hopeful of breaking their Grammys drought with “Rock N Roll Train” but it wasn’t their year. Kings of Leon instead took home the best rock performance by a duo or group category for “Sex on Fire.”

We didn’t fare any better in country either. Keith Urban is a double winner, but he failed to repeat the feat with “Let the Wind Chase You,” his duet with Trisha Yearwood. They lost the best country collaboration category to Robert Plant and Alison Krauss.

Australians Up for Grammy Award

December 5, 2008 by lkatulka

Kylie Minogue in Beijing

Aussies are in line to take home three gongs at next year’s Grammy Awards.

Kylie Minogue’s chart-topping dance album X is up against new releases from Cyndi Lauper, Daft Punk, and Moby in the best electronic/dance album category.

Industry newcomer Sam Sparro is also showing the world that Aussies can do more than rock. His debut smash “Black and Gold” has a shot of being named best dance song. But it’ll be tough for the local lad, with stiff competition from Madonna, Rihanna, and Lady GaGa.

With so many years under their belt, it’s amazing to think AC/DC have never won a Grammy. They’re in with a shot this year, with “Rock N Roll Train” nominated as best rock performance by a duo or group. They’ll fight Coldplay, Radiohead, The Eagles, and Kings of Leon for the title.

Good luck to all our Aussie Grammy hopefuls! The 51st Annual Grammy Awards will be held in Los Angeles on 8 February 2009.

Kylie and Coldplay Release AIDS Charity Song “Lhuna”

December 2, 2008 by lkatulka

Kylie Minogue and Coldplayhave teamed up for an ethereal new single called “Lhuna.” The track was released yesterday to support World AIDS Day.

All proceeds from the sale of the landmark single will go to (RED)Wire, a charity which helps deliver AIDS medication to those that can’t afford it.

This song is certainly a departure from the soaring stadium anthems and boppy pop gems we’re used to hearing from these musicians. Who would have imagined their collaboration would sound like this?
