The Angels Reunite For Aussie Tour

Image details: Countdown Spectacular 2 served by picapp.com
Doc Neeson hinted at it way back in January, but now it’s official. The seminal Aussie pub rockers The Angels have reunited.
After a bitter separation which lasted more than a decade Doc Neeson has reunited with John Brewster, Rick Brewster, Chris Bailey, and Graham Bidstrup.
The iconic lineup will headline the 30th Anniversary Golden Stave Foundation Luncheon at the end of June before touring the eastern states and South Australia.
A remastered edition of their classic album Face To Face will be reissued this year to celebrate the disc’s 30th anniversary. No word yet on whether some new material will follow it, but we’ll cross our fingers!

Great to hear about The Angels reunion tour. The only bad thing is that they are playing at pub venues which i am disappointed about. The reason being i went to see Jimmy Barnes at the Hallam Hotel in Melbourne and the sound was bad. He sounded like a chipmunk at times and the music was too loud for a venue like that. As we know The Angels like to play loud and why shouldn’t they being one of the great Australian bands of the 70’s. Alot of the people are going to be in thier 40’s and im sure there will alot of younger people there as well. I would say there will be a very big crowd and i think the pub venues will be too small. At the Jimmy Barnes concert from when they let the people in to when he actually came on stage was about 3 hours. Why couldn’t they play at a bigger venue as i think there are going to be alot of people wanting to see them.

I agree with you Coz … I was a bit surprised about that too. And with the older crowd … I’m sure a lot of them would much rather have a venue where they could sit down! I’m not even 30 yet and I’m going to fewer and fewer pub gigs for that reason!

I agree. Poor management vision to have them play suburban pubs for the hisoric reunion.
I live in Melbourne and they easily would have filled a city theatre like the Forum (a great city venue) with a few thousand fans. The Angels fans are grown up and spend $150 a ticket for Guns n Roses, AC/DC or Motley Crue. To see the Angels in a great venue with big stage and sound would have packed them in.
Very poor management.

Absolutely right Between the Eyes. I hope people still get out and support this though … if the management sees the demand is there perhaps they’ll play some bigger shows next time.

I use to see the Angles (Angel City in my case) back in the late 70’s early 80’s at small venues like the Roxy. Oh yeah, by the way, I’m live in Hollywood, California, USA! Seen them at least 4 or 5 times (which is not easy if you live here and not in Australia)…
I’m really happy they are getting back together, just disappointed that they won’t be playing anywhere near Los Angeles (and considering what the name of our city stands for, it’s kind of ironic…lol).
Like I said, I’ve been a fan for a long time. I even went to Australia back in the very early 80’s (business) and managed to pick up some albums of their’s not available in the states.
Hopefully there reunion tour will spawn a live album, and maybe even an album with new material. That would be great!
BTW, I’m 53 years old, and would have no problem standing up (and dancing) for an entire concert (hehe)!

PS. - I’m a bit embarrassed that I mispelled ‘Angels’ in my original post (in my defense, my spell checker understandable considered it a valid word (Angles))…

I was fortunate enough to see the Angels when they opened for The Kinks in Vancouver in 1980.
Best opening act EVER !! The crowd of 15,000 went insane for them. I’ve loved them ever since.
Their last album Skin and Bone is an AMAZING album nobody in north America has heard.
It’s astounding. Just a hammering, vicious assault. Vintage Angels.

Awesome stuff Cam! What an amazing double bill that would have been. It sounds like The Angels need to sort out that North American tour to satisfy all you die-hard fans!

I ain’t the one -from Nightmoves TV special very hot performance
Marseilles - Live TV broadcast that ends in a riot half way through the song in front of 100,000 fans and quite a few drunken hooligans

The Angels have always been a in your face live pub rock band.
Theatres and staduims i feel dont suit loud rock n roll . Hey , the band members are in their 50s now and if they can stand up for the entire performance i’m sure the fans will be able to as well.

i saw the Angels at the three day concert Narara back in the early 80s, have all their albums and recently brought the DVD. The Angels rock and would easily fill a NZ stadium. So how about jumping the ditch for a sell out show.

I saw the Angels last night at South Juniors, Sydney and wasn’t expecting too much but was blasted away by their rocking performance. I was reminded of why I was an Angels fan and why I always saw them live in the 80’s.
They are one of, if not only, the best live Aussie bands to ever go and see. Full of electricity and energy. Doc delivered true to form, except for the running around like he used to (have to account for age) and the Brewster brothers just pumping out those memorable melodic riffs was just fantastic, to say the least. If you were, are or going to ever be an Angels fan, you’ve got to go and see this tour. It’s not to be missed!!!

There’s a memory - I was at that show, New Years Eve 1979 at the Sydney Opera House. Absolutely crazy night. The (very drunk) crowd was chanting for the Angels all night and the organisers had the foresight to put on acts such as Rolf Harris as support in an effort to please all demographics. (Poor Rolf had cans flying past his ears).
The stupid thing was after midnight when the crowd finally got their wish they were so drunk they threw stuff at the Angels too. First Chris Bailey got knocked out with a champagne bottle in the face, then almost immediately after that Doc was KO’d by a piece of wood torn from the front of stage and frisbeed at him. You can see the aftermath of it all on the inside sleeve (vinyl) of the ‘Night Attack’ album.

Have followed this awesome Aussie band for most of my life.I have missed out on tickets to their only 3 shows in S.E.Q,and i am shattered!!After waiting all this time to see them again. Why only 3 shows in pub type venues??..they could easily fill a much bigger venue in Brisbane, keeping all their “older” fans happy too.Perhaps the management has forgotten just how many of us “die hard fans” are actually out here…….

Oh that’s such a shame Andy! I only hope that considering they sold out they’ll come back for you. It sounds like the response has been massive, so it’d make a lot of sense!
