Tim Loydell & The Deckchairs Announce East Coast Tour

Tim Loydell & The Deckchairs

Longtime fans of this blog will remember me raving about Some Strangers Ship, the fantastic debut EP from Tim Loydell & The Deckchairs. Now this brilliant blues and roots outfit is taking these amazing songs on the road with their All Hands on Deck tour.

Tim Loydell & The Deckchairs will be joined on the road by Sydney blues rockers Ooh La La. The shows promise to be something special, but if you still need a little encouragement how’s this? The bands will donate part of the proceeds to Red Cross Australia.

Good music that supports a good cause? That sounds too good to pass up!

I was fortunate to have caught Tim Loydell and the Deckchairs at the Big Sound Showcase, at The Press Club in The Valley. They came on last and late, but the place was packed. I was struck by the progress of the young band as they blitzed through a set of mesmerising songs that turned the heads of the most jaundiced music industry professionals. People know quality when they hear it, and the controlled, metered, professional performance by the band on that evening marked a turning point in their brief history. I was reminded of gigs at the Bitter End, Max’s Kansas City Bar and the Electric Circus in 1960’s New York, when an unknown young band would take the stage to reveal something truly great, important and groundbreaking. The Deckchairs looked like old pros, and they played like it too. The crowd was blown away.

That’s so great to hear Guapo. I unfortunately missed them on their last tour but they’re definitely on my must-see list.

Yeah Lauren, they are awesome. The Deckchairs possess a weather-worn patina that defies their youth. They bring to mind great bands that came before them, bands that were outside of the pop music marketing machine who let their music speak for itself. Those were bands of substance and virtuosity, bands that rose above the ordinary to create something that was not for the common listener. That road is a hard one. But in the end it is solid, true and pure.
