Young Divas “Hated Each Other,” Says Jessica Mauboy

Jessica Mauboy has confirmed what most of us already knew: the Young Divas hated each other. In an interview in today’s Sunday Telegraph, Jess revealed tensions arose when Ricki-Lee Coulter left the band.

“When Ricki left there was something crazy going on. They hated each other,” Jessica told the newspaper. “They were upset. She left the three of them on their own.”

Jess came in to fill the hole Ricki-Lee left in the band, but it definitely wasn’t a smooth ride for the band’s newest recruit.

“They had to teach me when they’d be in a really bad mood about Ricki,” she confirmed.

But Ricki Lee denies the claims, commenting that her tenure with the Young Divas was always intended to be a short term one.

“The Young Divas was supposed to be four solo artists who came together for a tour, then went back to their solo career,” she explained.

“People want to say we were bitchy and we hated each other but, really, I knew I couldn’t do the Young Divas and my solo career at the same time.”

Yet things were really so rosy, one wonders why she also told The Sunday Telegraph she hasn’t had any contact with the other divas since leaving the band. Maybe Ricki’s just taking the high road rather than dishing the dirt? I do have to wonder what Jess Mauboy hopes to achieve by speaking out about it all!

It may have started out as a short term project, but remaining divas Emily Williams and Kate DeAraugo are still flying the flag for the covers outfit. Maybe Madam Parker and Chrislyn Hamilton can fill those vacant slots once this series of Idol is over!
